Hey reader,

To everyone learning Spanish, MondeLibrary now fully supports Spanish - head over to see what’s available.

I’m busy writing up the next feature, so I thought for this edition’s spotlight I would highlight something I wrote last year that most of you won’t have had a chance to see. In today’s edition, why you should learn a language in a world of AI.

Finally, I came across an interesting piece by Benny Lewis discussing how his approach to speaking early can be reconciled with the comprehensible input hypothesis.

💡Mondecast Feature: Will AI kill language learning?

Betteridge's Law of Headlines says that the answer is no, and I agree! Over on Mondecast, I released an article discussing why we should still learn languages in a world where AI translators will become ubiquitous.

To spoil some of the article: language learning is more popular than ever, and in my view AI language translators will only make it more so. Sound counterintuitive? Read the article here to find out why.

🛠️Resource spotlight: Readlang

Readlang is basically a more economical version of Lingq. If you’re not familiar, this type of tool allows you to read content and click on words to get instant translations. It makes the process of reading and looking things up much more convenient.

🌐Language learning

What’s your unpopular opinion when it comes to language learning?

Is writing worth it? Shouldn’t I be speaking?

Comprehensible Input vs. Speaking From Day One - This piece from Benny Lewis (who advocates speaking a lot and early) recounts his discussion with Stephen Krashen (the man who popularised comprehensible input) and their attempt to reconcile their two seemingly opposite approaches. They concluded that they weren’t so different after all, more like two sides of the same coin.
